About the Area
The kayaking portion of this trip is all camping with tents, sleeping mats and sheets. A portable toilet and shower are the facilities available. The Westwind Hotel is in the village of Placencia on the beachfront and offers spacious rooms and private bathrooms.
Placencia Village is the jumping off point for all of our trips, located in Southern Belize on a narrow
13 mile long peninsula bordered by the Caribbean Sea, hosting some of the best beaches in Belize. Placencia
is a small village where fishing meets tourism as the local source of income, feeling undiscovered and remains
unspoiled by too many tourists.
A narrow sidewalk, famous as being the world's narrowest "street", runs down the center of the village
and is bordered by colorful houses, small hotels and charming restaurants. It's a great place t unwind and
get into "Belize Time".
Placencia is a great location from which to visit the rest of southern Belize. The Barrier Reef, archaeological
sites, caves, rainforests, jungle rivers, national parks, Garifuna and Maya Villages are all available to visit
on day trips out of Placencia. You may wish to add a few days to the end of your package trip to explore the area.
There are islands too numerous to name off shore of Placencia. Small mangrove islands whose roots are the
nursery of the sea and are teeming with life.
