About the Resort Sun Creek Lodge is a blend of traditional and creative ways of rustic living in the tropics combined with the modern convenience welcomes guests to this "Naturalists Paradise". Round, thatched cabanas are dotted throughout this "Garden of Eden", far enough apart that there is privacy. The spacious cabanas, made of hardwood walls and traditional thatch, are elegantly furnished with hardwood furniture, lots of windows (complete with screens and curtains) and colorful linens. The owners love to do things differently and even the outdoor showers have plants adorning them, making guests feel like they are showering in a waterfall in the jungle. Located in Punta Gorda Town, San Marcos, this lodge is one of the most original lodges in the area and is surrounded by lush jungle, tall trees, and a small creek runs through the property giving it the ambience of total relaxation and peace. We are proud to offer this lodge to our guests.

The lodge was completed in 2001 but Hurricane Iris came and wiped out the property the day before they officially opened. While many people would have given up, Melissa and Bruno continued to pursue their dream and have since rebuilt the accommodation, which opened in 2004. Melissa, who is Belizean, loves flowering tropical plants and has incorporated her love of gardening into the landscape of the property.  Bruno, originally from Germany, has a love for both business and the outdoors. Running the lodge and tours gives both Bruno and Melissa the opportunity to balance their creativity, hospitality, personal interests and formal training into one of the top accommodations off the beaten path.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1:  Arrive in Belize

You are personally greeted at the International Airport by a representative of Adventures in Belize. Your representative will direct you over to the local airline desk where you will board your flight to Punta Gorda town. At the airport in town you will be by the lodge owner who will drive you to the lodge. Your accommodations are in a cabana with welcome drinks. Dine tonight at the lodge.

Day 2:  Full Day of Fishing

Full Breakfast after which you will leave the lodge for a full day of fishing. Most of the day is spent hunting or casting to fish, checking out many different places, such as flats, channels, and mangrove shorelines. Mostly it is sight fishing: casting to tailing, rolling or cruising fish or casting to fish held up under the mangroves or casting to stops. There will be some blind casting to areas that the guides know hold fish which may not be visible at the surface. The guide will motor to other area during the day, always with wind, tide, light, and species in mind. If you enjoy snorkeling, bring your equipment with you, and take a couple of hours out of your fishing day and snorkel, if you are near the reef. Return to the lodge in the afternoon and dinner that evening is at the lodge.

Day 3:  Full Day of Fishing

Full Breakfast after which you leave the lodger for another full day of fishing. Our guides are a big help in assisting you and will make your vacation an unforgettable adventure. As there are no schedules to keep, fishing times are very flexible. Please remember that the average guiding day is 8 to 10 hours. You return to the lodge in the afternoon - relax time and dinner at the lodge that evening. The relatively undiscovered and pristine flats of Punta Gorda may be the best permit fishing grounds anywhere on earth. Punta Groda's reputation for top fly fishing grounds continues to spread. Permit are caught year-round close to the reef and drop-offs, and anywhere on the flats. Many flats have soft bottoms, so the most fishing in these areas is done from the boat.

Day 4:  Full Day of Fishing

Full Breakfast, and leave for yet another full day of fishing. The waters of Punta Gorda offer angler opportunity to wade and sight fish or cruising and tailing permit along hard sand and turtle grass flats. Bonefish are by are the most numerous game fish in Toledo.

Day 5:  Departure

Full Breakfast, check out and ground transfers from the lodge into town where you will be taken to the airport for your flight from Punta Gorda town to your next Belize destination!
