Adventures in Belize: Book This Trip

El Pescador is a divers angling destination but  is probably best known for world class permit fishing. There are numerous cayes and hundreds of tiny islands which you will find as soon as you enter the Caribbean Sea. Permits are plentiful. The fishing grounds of Punta Ycacos, Wild Cane Cayes, Snake Caye, Punta Negra and Port Honduras are all close by. The barrier reef flats and the Sapodilla Cayes are a 1 1/2 hour skiff ride away and offer excellent shots at bonefish. In the adjacent rivers, including the Monkey River, Deep River, Payne's Creek, Golden Stream, and Boden Creek you will find tarpon and snook.  Fresh water land-locked tarpon and by snook are found in the inner lagoons of the Ycacos near Punta Negra.

Note: This Day to Day itinerary is only a suggestion. Daily changes can be made depending on the time of year you visit. Additional activities can be added upon request.

Day 1:  Arrive in Belize

You are personally greeted at the International Airport by a representative of Adventures in Belize. Your representative will direct you over to the local airline desk where you will board your flight to Punta Gorda town. At the airport in town you will be met by resort personnel and driven to El Pescador, where your welcome drinks await. Accommodations are in a standard room in the resort. Dinner tonight is at the resorts lovely dinning room.

Day 2:  Full Day of Fishing

Full Breakfast at the resort. You leave the resort for a full day fishing tour of shallow water flats fishing. Fishing will take place in the flats around the inner reef cayes, lagoons, rivers and land locked lagoons ground near the resort. Boat lunch is included. You return to the lodge after a full day of fishing. Relax and wait for dinner, which is served in the dinning room at the resort.

Day 3:  Full Day of Fishing

Full Breakfast at the resort. Your fishing day will consist of Flay fishing. They Maya Mountain's eastern watershed, which extends from the Stann Creek District south through the Toledo District, provides an abundance of fresh water and literally hundreds of rivers and streams to which El Pescador has access. Paynes Creek National Park was declared a nature reserve in May 1994 and a national park in 1999. The most southern border habitat is the brackish mangrove swamp associated with the Punta Ycacos lagoon system. The best way to explore this site is by boat through the Punta Ycacos Lagoon, which is increasingly used for sports fishing. Boat lunch is included. You return to the resort after a full day of fishing. You can relax and wait for dinner, which is served in the resort dinning room.

Day 4:  Full Day of Fishing

Full Breakfast at the resort. Your fishing today will be a full day of reef fishing. The Barrier Reef and Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve will prove to be a valuable resource. Two of the main attractions to this destination are the world class diving as well as the abundance of bonefish. The outer reefs support a wide variety of fish. Often, large schools of jacks or spadefish will feed just off the outer slope. Nearer the bottom, angelfish, parrotfish and snappers begin to dominate. Your day includes boat lunch. You return to the resort for relax time and a delicious dinner.

Day 5:  Full Day of Fishing

Full Breakfast at the resort. Today your fishing trip will include The Temash and Sarstoon Delta Wildlife Sanctuary which was declared a protected area by the government in 1992. Being one of the most remote reserves in Belize, it provides habitat for a variety of wildlife. Rarely seen birds and animals such as the scarlet macaw, and the white-faced capuchin monkey have been spotted here. The beauty of the Temash river lies in the old red mangrove trees that tower alongside both river banks, sometimes reaching more than 100ft. The presence of ospreys and other seabirds indicate the quality of fishing. Large snook and tarpon cruise the river. The Temash/Sarstoon Nature Reserve is about 13 miles south of Punta Gorda by boat. Lunch is included. Your return to the lodge in time for dinner at the resort that evening.

Day 6:  Visit Golden Stream Corridor Preserve and Fishing

Full Breakfast at the resort. On today's list, you get to visit one of the largest reserves in the area of Toledo. The Golden Stream Corridor Preserve is a 33,384 acre nature preserve. The Golden Stream Watershed Corridor is unique because of the great diversity of habitat types concentrated within a relatively short distance. The estuarine environments support a healthy but threatened population of the West Indian Manatee and many marine species. Your fishing guide will lead you through this area with care since it is protected. Your trip includes lunch and you return to the resort for a relaxing hour or two before dinner.

Day 7:  Full Day of Fishing

Full Breakfast at the resort. Easily the most popular fishing tour is the Monkey River. It is a popular jungle river trip, well known for its wildlife sightings of howler monkeys, iguanas, exotic birds, great tarpon fishing and jungle walk tours. The Monkey River winds its way southeast from the Maya Mountains through dense jungle forest and mangrove swamp before emptying into the Caribbean Sea.

Day 8:  Departure

Full Breakfast, check out and ground transfers from the resort into town where you will be taken to the airport for your flight from Punta Gorda Town to your next exciting Belize destination!
